Hey y’all,
It’s been a long time since I have put out a post. There has been so much going on here at the farmhouse. Much of 2020 was spent recovering from a devastating tornado here on the homestead. Add to that, the fact that we started a new garden area and got a few more animals, along with raising boys has all made for a busy couple of years, to say the least!
Now, to complicate matters even more, just add on top of that, all the crazy going on in this world that we are all living in!
Wow…
sometimes all that I can say is “wow”!
You too? I suspected as much.
Well, besides what I have already mentioned, there is another very important thing that I have been spending a great deal of time on, and that is the point of this post today.
I have been preparing heart and home for the days ahead.
And as I have been preparing, I have had you, my reader, on my mind! There have been so many times that I have been told by precious friends and even strangers that they would love to know how to do some of the things that I do here on our homestead.
They question me about things that I do in order to live a more self-reliant and prepared lifestyle. I am always excited and willing to share the knowledge that I have gained through trial and error and lots of research .
I find it very enjoyable to study the “old ways”, as some call them. It is a great hobby to learn old methods that our predecessors practiced. But I believe now, my, friends, that we come to a time when it is no longer a luxury to learn those skills. No, rather than a luxury, I believe is now a necessity.
There is an old expression that says, “Don’t be behind the 8 ball”. It means, “don’t go and get yourself in trouble, now”. It is always best to gain skills before you need them, rather than in the midst of a crisis,. Wouldn’t you agree?
Things like growing your own food, making your own bread, canning your own vegetables, jams, jellies, pickles, relishes, etc., making your money stretch farther, making your own household products, like cleaning supplies, health and beauty products, and even your own medicinal preparations, are skills that are extremely valuable. Especially when a supply chain is low and the economy is shaking, like we are seeing all over the world right now.
These skills, along with ideas for making your home comfortable, cozy, welcoming, and cheerful, and most importantly, spiritually preparing the hearts of everyone in your home for the unknowns that we are facing, are all topics that I am going to be addressing in a new series of blogs and videos called, “Preparing heart and home for the days ahead”.
My heart has been stirred and I’ve sensed in my spirit that the Lord wanted me to share this information with those who are seeking it.
We see many references in scripture where God advocates preparing for the days ahead. We will be discussing some of those stories in upcoming blogs as they relate to our topics.
God is so good! I trust that He is going to bring all the pieces of this blog series together perfectly, so that you gain a sense of peace, as we navigate through coming uncertain times.
I hope that you will read the blogs and watch the correlating videos on my youtube channel, share them with everyone you know, and put the skills into practice, if at all possible. I truly believe it will benefit you and your family, and may give you an extra small measure of peace and assurance and a sense of a little bit of control when it seems like our world is completely out of control. We know and strongly believe that our only real and lasting peace is in the saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. But there are also some very practical things that we can do to provide, through God’s provision, for our family’s needs in hard times.
So, join me as I share two posts per week, discussing all the ways to prepare heart and home for the days ahead!
Have a blessed day until we meet again, here on the blog.
Bye y’all!

But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.

I’m thrilled that you are doing this….can’t wait to see what you show us and maybe motivate US to do!!!
BTW, do go look on FB “Cooking with Brenda Gantt” and see about “the old ways” of cooking..She is a living Jesus-loving doll and her cooking ways are the old ways and sooo refreshing. Her first cook book just came out called “It’s gonna be good ya’ll” and is FULL of stories and good ole advice and tips. You would be such a great team with her….from Andalusia, Alabama. Do yourself a favor and start following her and get her book….Blessings on all of you doing all of us a favor.
